Chinese Names Pronunciation Workshop

The Chinese Names Pronunciation Workshop is a professional development offering where TAs and LSAs (unfamiliar with the Chinese language), learn essential Chinese language pronunciation tips. The curriculum features a data-driven selection of commonly mispronounced names at UW, with a focus on names with difficult to pronounce consonants and vowels.

Workshop Overview

Master pronunciation through practice, not just theory. This workshop focuses on building muscle memory via guided repetitions and group exercises, ensuring participants are speaking from the start. We provide a safe, supportive space to develop the practical skills you need to pronounce your students’ names with confidence and more precision than with what you came in having.

Additional Resources

Below, we highlight some useful tools for your continued study. The Chinese Language Dictionary resource is helpful for searching names and getting the word spoken aloud on the go (it is a mobile app). The Interactive Pronunciation Chart resource is a table of all the sounds in the language, and may be most useful if you are accessing resources from a computer.
